New play equipment has been installed at the play area just off Heol Llanelli in Pontyates. Pontyates Primary School pupils were out in the sunshine this morning to enjoy the new park during its official opening. At the opening were representatives from Llanelli Rural Council and Pontyates School who were presented with goody bags supplied by the play equipment manufacturers, Wicksteed Playgrounds.
The school’s children had a big say in the park’s design and helped choose the equipment earlier on in the year. Llanelli Rural Council has consulted with the school and community throughout the design and planning process and the children now have a play area that reflects their wishes.
The park has been funded by Llanelli Rural Council after it was transferred from Carmarthenshire County Council under a 99 year lease.
Council Leader, Cllr. Tegwen Devichand said “It is with great pleasure that we can provide these wonderful new facilities at Pontyates. New equipment has been required at this play area for some time and we’re delighted to have it open in time for the school summer holidays. I’d like to thank Mrs Rumble and her staff at Pontyates School for their cooperation throughout and also to the children who helped create a lovely new park.”
